TRAVERSE

Traverse is a novel that explores the protagonist, Knut Hamsun, as he battles a desperate search for success in writing while being homeless and wandering the streets of Kristiania. His hunger slowly drives him crazy and starves his mind. He becomes fixated on a hole in a wall, letting his mind wander and becoming frenzied because of this dark hole.I linked this to the fear of holes, specifically trypophobia, and expanded on this fear for the narrative of the story for a university project. The aim of this project was to make the reader feel uncomfortable interacting with the book, linking this discomfort to the character's starvation.
